The Jackson Transfer Station is located in the municipal complex behind the Fire Station, and is available to all Jackson residents. It is open Sundays, 8 AM - 5 PM. The Swap Shop is closed until further notice.
Transfer Station Stickers are available at the Town Office. Please bring in your vehicle registration to be issued a sticker. You will need a sticker for each vehicle.
Starting May 1st, 2026, you must display your sticker in order to use the transfer station.
BROWN GOODS DAY: May 3rd, 2026, 8 AM to 4 PM. We may close earlier if the compactor is full, so come early! NO TIRES. You must have a Transfer Station sticker! If a non-resident will be bringing items to Brown Goods Day on your behalf, please come to the Town Office to get them a temporary sticker.
Acceptable brown goods
Construction/demo debris.
Furniture, including mattresses and box springs.
Flooring: linoleum, rugs, carpets, tile, etc.
Tarps, rope, and netting.
Wood: Treated and non-treated.
Unacceptable brown goods
Tires.
Special or hazardous waste (as defined by the D.E.P.).
Liquid waste of ANY kind.
Refrigeration units, including refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners.
Televisions and computers (including components and monitors).
Gas or propane tanks/bottles/cylinders/barrels/drums, air bag canisters.
Fluorescent lamps, light ballasts, batteries.
Mercury containing items, including vapor tubs, thermostats/switches, and thermometers.
Metal dumpster:
1. All items must be put in dumpster and pushed back as far as possible. DO NOT LEAVE ITEMS ON GROUND OUTSIDE DUMPSTER.
2. Refrigerators—freon-free and doors off.
3. NO dumping when transfer station not open.
4. NO TV’s, microwaves, computers, or other electronics. (Those can be taken to Unity Area recycling-free of charge.)
Please follow the rules or the dumpster may again be removed. And remember: refrigerators, with their freon intact, can be recycled at the Unity Area Recycling Center in Thorndike. Please don't vent refrigerant into the atmosphere. It’s a really bad air pollutant.
Recycling can be taken to the Unity Area Regional Recycling Center (UARRC) at 95 Leonard Road, Thorndike ME 04986. It is open Wednesday to Friday 9am-4pm, and Saturdays 8am-1pm. Visit their website or Facebook page for more information.
Brown Goods are only accepted twice a year, normally in May and October. Dates will be announced.
NO hazardous waste will be accepted at the Transfer Station. Universal Hazardous Waste can be taken to UARRC during their regular hours. This list includes all batteries, ink and toner cartridges, TVs and monitors, computers, printers, and other electronic equipment, game consoles, digital picture frames, and anything containing mercury (fluorescent bulbs, thermometers, thermostats, automotive switches, and some antiques.) Pamphlets are available in the Town Office and at the Transfer Station.
NO tires at this time, due to the closure of the disposal facility.
The Transfer Station is open every Sunday.
