A completed Building Notification form must be filed at the Town Office prior to starting construction on ALL building projects. All applicable permits (water, electrical, driveway, etc.) will be required in addition to the Building Notification form. The Building Notification form was updated on 09/26/2023. FAQ
What do I need to do to build a residence or commercial building in the Town of Jackson?
Building Notification form submitted to the town office. (This will need to include your occupancy type; tax map # and lot #; deed book and page.) Please note: All buildings must be 75 feet back from centerline of road, and 15 feet back from all lot lines.
Addressing permit.
Driveway or private road permit from Jackson Road Commissioner. (Driveway permit for Rt. 7 requires a State of ME driveway permit.)
Lot registration. (Minimum lot size is 2 acres, and 200 feet of road frontage.)
Septic permit from Code Enforcement Officer.
Not your land? Submit a written agreement from the landowner for the building project.
What do I need to alter an existing residential or commercial structure?
Building Notification form with details of the addition. This will need to include:
a. Current occupancy type.
b. Proposed occupancy of new addition.
c. Square footage of new addition of over 200 sq ft.
d. Distance from center of road.
e. Distance from lot lines.
Be aware that some additions also require state permits. e.g. updated septic systems.
What do I need to put up on an outbuilding of any type?
Building Notification form with the following:
a. Tax map and lot #.
b. Proposed occupancy, if any.
c. Building square footage.
d. Distance from center of road.
e. Distance from lot lines.
f. Existing or new driveway information.
Please note that the above requirements may not all apply to you, but the Building Notification form applies to ALL building projects in the Town of Jackson.
